Qatar
The Compass Brief — Qatar

🗓 Best time: November–March is the season — 22–28°C and made for the corniche. Summer is fierce; everything moves indoors, where Doha is admittedly excellent.

💰 Realistic budget: ₹45,000–₹70,000 per person for 4 nights including flights.

🛂 Visa for Indians: Free visa on arrival for Indians (up to 30 days) with a confirmed return ticket and hotel booking; complete any registration formalities current at travel time. The easiest Gulf entry there is.

Qatar spent a fortune making the world look at it, and the result rewards a proper stop rather than a transit lounge: the Museum of Islamic Art holding treasures above a turquoise bay, Souq Waqif's falcon shops and shisha lanes, the Msheireb district's rebooted old city — and an hour south, the genuine wonder of Khor Al Adaid, the inland sea where Arabian dunes run straight into the Gulf.

The shape of the trip

The long weekend (4 nights): the MIA and the National Museum's desert-rose architecture; Souq Waqif at night; The Pearl and Katara for the waterfront; a half-day desert safari to the inland sea (₹4,000–5,500 — dune-bashing optional, the sea-meets-sand sunset compulsory); and a Lusail detour for the football pilgrims.

The money

Doha is Gulf-priced but discount-rich: five-star rooms routinely fall to ₹8,000–13,000 outside events; the gleaming metro costs pennies; souq dinners run ₹600–1,000. Qatar Airways stopover packages — hotel nights bundled absurdly cheap with transiting fares — are the smart traveller's route in.

Worth knowing

Check current entry formalities a week before flying (registration systems evolve here). Friday mornings are closed and quiet. And treat Doha honestly: a brilliant 3–4 day city, best as a rich stopover stitched to a longer journey on the airline's network.
