Every visa-free and visa-on-arrival country for Indian passports in 2026

Update (July 2026): Thailand's 60-day visa-free entry for Indian passports was withdrawn following the Thai Cabinet's decision of 19 May 2026. Indians now enter on a Visa on Arrival (15 days, THB 2,000 paid in cash) or a Tourist e-Visa (60 days, applied for online before travel). The mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card must be completed within 72 hours before arrival. Treat any 'Thailand visa-free' claim below or elsewhere as superseded.
The Indian passport's access list has quietly improved over the last two years. Here's the practical version — not just where you can go, but what immigration actually asks for when you land, because "visa-free" has never meant "questions-free."
Fully visa-free (just show up)
- Thailand — 60 days. Carry hotel booking and the equivalent of ~₹20,000; rarely checked but legally required, and airline check-in desks in India do ask for return tickets.
- Malaysia — 30 days. Fill the MDAC digital arrival card online within 3 days before flying; this form trips up more Indian travellers than any visa ever did. Free, five minutes, non-negotiable.
- Mauritius — 90 days. Accommodation proof and return ticket; the all-inclusive resort booking answers every question.
- Nepal & Bhutan — open border / permit-based respectively; Bhutan levies its Sustainable Development Fee (₹1,200/day for Indians).
- Kazakhstan — 14 days. The Almaty mountain-city combination is the most underrated short trip from Delhi right now.
- Kenya — ETA system: technically an online authorisation (free for many), effectively visa-free. Safari season books out; the ETA doesn't.
- Iran, Fiji, Barbados, Grenada, Senegal, and a dozen island nations — varying durations, all genuinely straightforward.
Visa on arrival (pay at the counter)
- Indonesia (Bali) — ~₹2,600, 30 days, extendable once. Carry the fee ready to skip the card queue; e-VOA online beforehand skips the queue entirely.
- Maldives — free, 30 days. Hotel confirmation printout is actually checked, and the IMUGA online declaration must be filed within 96 hours before arrival and departure.
- Sri Lanka — free ETA for Indians currently; apply online before flying and the airport becomes a walk-through.
- Jordan — visa on arrival, waived entirely if you buy the Jordan Pass online (which also covers Petra — do this, it saves money twice).
- Qatar — free visa on arrival with hotel booking; the stopover programme makes Doha a genuine two-day add-on.
- Laos & Cambodia — counter visas ~US$30–40; both also run e-visas that save the queue.
- Seychelles — visitor's permit on arrival, free; proof of accommodation and funds required and genuinely checked.
The e-visa heavyweights (not visa-free, but easy)
Not technically this list, but close enough to plan around: Vietnam (~₹2,100, two weeks' lead), UAE/Dubai (~₹6,500, 2–4 days), Azerbaijan (₹2,200, 3 days — and Baku is the value city-break of the moment), Georgia (e-visa, and spectacular), Egypt (US$25 e-visa), Turkey (e-visa for Indians holding valid US/UK/Schengen visas). If you hold a valid US visa or green card, an entire second tier opens — Mexico, Taiwan, Georgia visa-free, UAE visa-on-arrival — which is a strategy in itself.
The fine print people miss
- The airline enforces harder than the border. Check-in staff in India are liable if you're refused entry, so they demand return tickets and hotel proof more strictly than immigration does. Carry printouts; a phone screen at 3am with 4% battery has ruined more trips than any rule change.
- Passport validity: six months beyond travel dates, everywhere, no exceptions worth testing. Two blank pages minimum.
- "Proof of funds" is real in a few places — Seychelles and Thailand can ask; an international card plus a bank statement screenshot settles it.
- Onward tickets: if travelling one-way while you decide, a genuine refundable onward booking beats the sketchy "rental ticket" services — some airlines now verify PNRs.
Rules change frequently — always verify on the destination's official immigration site in the week before travel. This list reflects July 2026.
